What is IPEMA?
  IPEMA, the International Playground Equipment Manufacturers Association, provides 3rd party Product Certification services for U.S. public play equipment and public play surfacing materials in the U.S. IPEMA services IPEMA-certified member companies, affiliated playground industry groups and anyone with an interest in playground equipment regulations.
IPEMA is a non-profit, membership, trade association.
Third-Party Certification Program
In the interest of public safety, IPEMA provides third-party Product Certification services for U.S. public play equipment and U.S. public play surfacing materials. The services provide for the validation of a participant’s certification of conformance to one of the standards referenced below. Both programs are administered by TÜV SÜD America.
- ASTM F1487-07, excluding sections 7.1.1, 10 and 12.6.1 - Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public use
- CAN/CSA-Z614-07 excluding clauses 9.8, 10, and 11 - Children’s Playspaces and Equipment
- ASTM F1292-09 - Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation of Surface Systems Under and Around Playground Equipment
- ASTM F2075-10a- Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment
ASTM F1292-09 Compliant Products
In the interest of public playground safety, IPEMA provides a 3rd Party Certification service whereby TÜV SÜD America validates a manufacturer's conformance to the ASTM F1292-09 Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation of Surface Systems Under and Around Playground Equipment.
The use of the IPEMA Certification Seal displayed above signifies that the manufacturer has received written validation from the independent laboratory that the product associated with the use of the seal conforms with the requirements of ASTM F1292-09.
Terry's Lawn Care, Inc utilizes mulch from Bailey Bark Materials, Inc which has received approval for at least one certified product. The 3rd party validator has randomly selected and tested some of the products for each participant. In addition, the validator has performed a plant and/or home office inspection, involving a review of the participants Quality Assurance Program, Installation Instructions, and complaint follow up systems. The validator maintains a listing of approved suppliers (name and location) for participants that have multiple suppliers.
This list of IPEMA certified products is maintained exclusively by TÜV SÜD America.
ASTM F2075-10a Compliant Engineered Wood Fiber
In the interest of public playground safety, IPEMA provides a 3rd Party Certification service whereby TÜV SÜD America validates a manufacturer's conformance to the ASTM F2075-10a Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment.
The use of the IPEMA Certification Seal displayed above signifies that the manufacturer has received written validation from the independent laboratory that the product associated with the use of the seal conforms with the requirements of ASTM F2075-10a Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment.
Terry's Lawn Care, Inc utilizes mulch from Bailey Bark Materials, Inc which has received approval for at least one certified product. To meet the Performance Requirements described in Section 4.6 of this Standard, Engineered Wood Fiber material must undergo the test method described in Section 9.0 to determine the presence of tramp metal particles. Metal particles embedded or mixed in Engineered Wood Fiber may cause injury if a child were to fall on/or come in contact with them. The limit for tramp metal was set to reduce the potential of injury.
